Welcome Fortnight FAQs

Your questions on Postgraduate Welcome Fortnight answered here!

Where is the Gilchrist?

The Gilchrist is nestled away in the main building. When facing the main building (from University Ave) go to the far right entrance.  Directly in front of you and slightly to your left you’ll see the Gilchrist PG Club.  If you end up in 1a the Square you’ve gone too far!

Are the events free to attend?

Most PG Welcome Fortnight events are free, however there are some exceptions.  There are a handful of ticketed events, which you can buy tickets for online.  It is advised you buy your tickets in advance, as many of our events sell out.  The only exception to this is the Pub Quiz.  There is an entry fee of £1, but you just pay this to the quizmaster on the night to enter the quiz.  The freshers week wristband will not get you into ticketed events for free, you will still need to pay for these.

Do I have to be a postgrad to attend?

The events are aimed at Postgraduate students to the University of Glasgow, particularly new Postgraduates, as a welcome and orientation event.  The club will be open access during this time, which means you do not need to be a fully registered postgraduate student to gain access to the space.

Are there alcohol free events?

With the exception of our tasting nights, all of our other events can be enjoyed alcohol free.  We have a fully functioning bar which serves soft drinks and hot beverages, as well as alcohol.

Can I bring my underage child?

Anyone underage can attend our events as long as they are accompanied by an adult.  They cannot stay past 10pm, and they cannot buy anything from the bar (even if it’s a non-alcoholic drink).

Is there Disabled Access?

The Gilchrist is fully wheelchair accessible, and has disabled parking spaces in front of it.   If you have any other concerns please send us an email at gilchristpgclub@src.gla.ac.uk and we will do our best to meet your needs.

Where can I park my car?

Parking at the University can be tricky, so always leave yourself plenty of time.  Parking on the main campus does tend to be free in the evenings (during the day you need a permit).

I want to put on my own event at the Gilchrist, how do I do that?

If you loved PG Welcome Fortnight so much that you want to bring your own events to the Gilchrist, we are always open to bringing new stuff into our space for the Postgraduate community.  All you have to do is email gilchristpgclub@src.gla.ac.ukto enquire further.
