Welcome Fortnight 2018
Welcome to all new postgraduate students!
The Students’ Representative Council would like to welcome all new postgraduate students to the University of Glasgow by holding two weeks worth of events just for you! These events are nestled away in the comfort of the Gilchrist PG club, a space devoted to postgraduates.
Welcome Fortnight is our annual event, which runs from September 10th to 21st, specifically for postgraduate students to introduce you to student life. The majority of the events take place in the Gilchrist PG club, which is a social space for postgraduates to use. It has a café, bar, food, study booths and a bookable seminar room. Welcome Fortnight brings together the postgraduate community and is a great way to meet friends for the year, which can be more challenging in the isolated research environment that many PGs face.
You can expect a wide range of activities during Welcome Fortnight, including live jazz music, pub quizzes, whisky tastings, murder mysteries and a fabulous drag show! You’ll get a chance to meet the Students’ Representative Council at a mini-fair (with free pizza!) and unwind with mindfulness and knitting. You can find out more about clubs and societies with events like the Cheese and Wine tasting and Bright Club. We’ll also be celebrating Oktoberfest in style with pretzels and German beer alongside the German Society!
These are just some of the activities that will be on offer at the Gilchrist during Welcome Fortnight. So feel free to come along, chill with a nice glass of wine or delicious coffee and enjoy the space dedicated to you!
Postgraduates are also more than welcome to take part in the wider Freshers’ Week events, details of which can be found on the Freshers’ Week 2018 website.
Here is what we have planned – we look forward to welcoming you!
